Clip Tease: ‘Loving’

Interracial marriage was illegal in the 1960s, and though conditions have changed, mixed-raced couples still receive scrutiny in today’s society. While the remarks about “swirling” have become much more subtle, many still have an issue with folks who date outside of their race.

Decades before interracial marriage became more acceptable, Richard and Mildred Loving went against the odds and fought for their right to love each other. In fact, their fight was so tough that it was the center of  a landmark civil rights case, Loving vs. Virginia, and went all the way to the Supreme Court.

Now, their epic love story is getting the big screen treatment.

In Loving, the couple’s right has been turned into a film, and recently received rave reviews at the Cannes Film Festival following its world premiere.

Directed by Jeff Nichols, and starring Ruth Negga and Joel Edgerton, the Focus Features film has set November 4 as its USA theatrical release.
