Your past has a way of catching up with you and Love & Hip Hop: New York star Mendeecees Harris is learning the hard way.
Harris, who married Yandi Smith earlier this year, was sentenced to eight years in federal prison for his involvement in a drug trafficking conspiracy that shipped large quantities of cocaine and heroin from downstate New York to the Rochester Region, reports Democrat & Chronicle.
Much of his legal troubles were documented in the popular VH1 reality series.
While being sentenced, Mendeecees shared his fatherless upbringing, which led to his journey into the world of drugs. A father of four, Harris apologized to Rochester and further expressed how becoming a father has made him lead a more positive and legit life.
He posted the below message to fans and supporters via Instagram:
Following the sentencing, his attorney shared with the Associated Press that the judge recognized Harris’ efforts to deter youth from going down the same path of crime.
Harris has been on $600,000 bail since April on an agreement that he would pay restitution with his earnings from Love & Hip Hop and paid appearances. In total, he agreed to forfeit, $282,000 which includes funds from the show and a 2011 Audi R8 sports car worth $111,000.
