Let Them Cape! Dudes Are Super Man About This Women-Only ‘Wonder Woman’ Screening

Wonder Woman is set to hit theaters on Friday, June 2, so of course, some men are already in their feelings.

Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman which is being called the best film to come out of the DC Cinematic Universe in years is ready to come thundering through the box office, and apparently, some men are already mad about it. In celebration of the film, the Alamo Drafthouse theater in Austin, Texas decided to host TWO special screenings of the movie where no boys are allowed. Alamo Drafthouse said that the theater is “embracing its girl power.” They are super serious about this too. According to the theater’s website, “Everyone working at this screening — venue staff, projectionist, and culinary team — will be female.”

Though this idea is obviously amazing and should be met with praise especially since both the film industry and comic franchises are male dominated, some fellas are quite perturbed about all of this. One annoying Facebook commenter wrote, “Apparently ‘equality’ is only selective nowadays. How about a “men’s only” showing of a movie or is that not how equality works?” Luckily, the Alamo Drafthouse remained unbossed and unbothered. They responded with a swiftness saying, “This has zip to do with equality. This is a celebration of a character that’s meant a great deal to many women since 1940.” When another user asked “Will there be a male only viewing?” the theater clapped back, providing a link on renting a room out for a private event. Bloop.

It’s interesting how so many of these “lovely” male commenters seem to have conveniently forgotten about the legacy of all male spaces like Gentleman’s clubs, and the like.

So who’s ready to see Gal Gadot kill the game as the Amazonian Princess who lives on an island without men and helps save the world? We’ve got our golden bracelets ready. It will be 141 minutes of estrogen filled bliss.
