Christian rapper Lecrae is known for his uplifting rhymes, but he came under fire from many who couldn’t handle his super woke Independence Day tweet about what his ancestors were doing on July 4, 1776.

As American history tells us, Lecrae was on point with his Twitter commentary–after all, Black Americans didn’t attain freedom until more than 100 years after the founding of the nation–but some people thought his tweet was “unpatriotic.”
@lecrae Done supporting you bro. You make everything a race issues lately instead of a gospel issue. You promote guilt instead of love. — steve (@Hevi_On_Honkers) July 4, 2016
@lecrae this is boardline unpatriotic… maybe thank a veteran rather than tear people apart. #IndependenceDay

@lecrae you lost me man. Take care. — JeremyinAkron™ (@JeremyinAkron) July 4, 2016
@lecrae really big fan of yours, and while we shouldnt forget, your timing to remind seems wrong. It breaks my heart to see a divide widened
— Josh Knautz (@J_Knautz) July 4, 2016
@lecrae super disappointed with your tweet. Pics like this divide instead of brining unity. #unfollowed — Joshua Gellock (@JoshuaGellock) July 4, 2016
Not everyone was critical of Lecrae’s tweet. Several fans–both Black and White–rallied to his defense and commended him on telling it like it is.
@lecrae nothing “offends” white people more than black people acknowledging slavery.

@lecrae I love it because an objection to this tweet is pic.twitter.com/LaEL0gNsyx

@lecrae TY for the reminder that July 4th meant freedom for some, but not all. We must keep fighting until all have equal rights & freedom. — Melissa Baker (@bakerpartyofsix) July 4, 2016
@Andrew_Pearcy American History makes insecure white people uncomfortable.
— (((Hank))) (@hankhank30) July 4, 2016
So many white Christians are uncomfortable in the face of @lecrae‘s tweet & I’m just like pic.twitter.com/xWaCm0HagU — Charlotte ᕕ(^∇^)ᕗ (@CharCubed) July 4, 2016
And just in case folks thought Lecrae would back down, the rapper assured fans he would not.
Got up this morning still loved, still a child of God, and still woke.

Any questions?
