How to Get Away With Murder won’t be the only Shondaland series to hold court this fall.
Shonda Rhimes’ new series For the People will hit ABC in just a few months, and it’s ready to bring Olivia Pope’s fixer skills to the courtroom. With Scandal coming to an end after next season, ABC is already looking to get some fresh Shonda series to fill in the gaps.
For the People will follow a group of young lawyers fresh out of law school who are working on opposite sides of the Southern District of New York Federal Court aka “The Mother Court.” The teaser for the new series doesn’t exactly reveal much, but the narrator does refer to the characters as “young, hungry, and smart.” The cast is a mix of fresh and familiar faces including The Path‘s Britne Oldford, Parenthood‘s Lyndon Smith, The Good Wife’s Ben Rappaport, Awkward’s Wesam Kees, Royal Pain’s Ben Shenkman, American Crime’s Hope Davis, Chicago Hope’s Vondie Curtis-Hall, Nurse Jackie’s Anna Deavere Smith, as well as a relative newcomers Susannah Flood and Rege-Jean Page.
It looks like these guys are about to give Annalise Keating’s crew a run for their money. They certainly aren’t afraid to throw down. Perhaps saying goodbye to Scandal won’t be so hard after all.
Rhimes will serve as an executive producer on the series, along with For the People’s creator and Shondaland alum Paul William Davies.
Check out the first teaser trailer below. If you want more Shondaland before fall, Rhimes’ new series Still Star-Crossed will premiere Monday, May 29, 2017.
