Laverne Cox Heads to Court
Pilot season is in full effect and the castings we’re learning about are definitely giving props to people of color in reoccurring roles.
And now, Orange is the New Black’s breakout star, Laverne Cox, will turn in her orange jumpsuit for a snazzy business skirt and heels in the upcoming legal series, Doubt.
Boosting the ranks on diversity and inclusion, not only will this be another role for an African-American actress, but this also makes history as the first transgender series regular on broadcast TV portrayed by a transgender actor, according to Deadline.
Doubt centers on a successful, chic defense lawyer at a boutique firm. Her drama: She gets involved with a client who may, or may not be, guilty of a brutal crime.
As co-star, Cox will play the role of Cameron Wirth, a funny and competitive attorney with credentials that extend to an Ivy-League education. A fierce character with various dimensions, her first-hand experience of injustice provides motivation to vigorously defend her clients.
A pilot air-date has yet to be released.
