Laurence Fishburne to Play Mandela in Miniseries

Within the last decade, Morgan Freeman, Idris Elba and Terrence Howard have portrayed Nelson Mandela in motion pictures.

Now Laurence Fishburne is up to bat.

The black-ish star will play the legendary activist in a BET production titled Madiba. Packaged as a six-hour miniseries, the project is based on the memoir Conversations With Myself and Nelson Mandela by Himself.

Mandela, who died in 2013 at age 95, dedicated his life to fighting apartheid as the first African-American President in South Africa and a globally-known revolutionary.

Filming will begin in South Africa at the top of next year.
