Kerry Washington Inks Deal With ABC

Scandal star Kerry Washington can add a new skill to her resume–development executive.

The actress’ newly formed production company, Simpson Street, entered into a pact with ABC Studios and it’s cable affiliate, ABC Signature to create content for the network’s broadcast, cable, and streaming services.

Washington, who became the first Black woman to lead a network drama in 40 years when Scandal premiered in 2012, said the move will help her bring more diverse content to viewers.

“I believe strongly in the importance of having a seat at the table, which makes starting this production company thrilling for me,” Washington said in a statement. “It’s an honor to be at a point in my career when I can help generate projects that are exciting, necessary and truly reflect the world around us. I’m grateful to be on this journey with ABC, a network that remains unparalleled in its commitment to inclusive storytelling.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Washington isn’t the first TGIT star to ink a deal with ABC. How to Get Away With Murder star Viola Davis also has an development agreement with the network.
