Compton’s own Kendrick Lamar lent his talents to Saturday Night Live this past weekend, to the delight of all of his fans. The good kid, m.A.A.d city rapper performed “Swimming Pools” and “Poetic Justice,” sans Drake, with a live band on the SNL stage. (Hello saxophone player!)
Lamar, who’s latest album peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart, expressed his gratitude for landing the spot in an interview with MTV News, saying:
“SNL, that’s a whole ‘nother world, especially for a new artist in hip-hop. I’m blessed,” he said. “I’m fortunate to not only have the urban culture to be looking at my music, but just everybody around the world to feel the same way about it. And I just really appreciate everybody taking the time out to listen.”
If you weren’t sure about Kendrick Lamar’s amazing artistry before, go ahead, believe the hype.
He is good.
