Keke Palmer is Broadway’s 1st Black Cinderella
Who says fairy tales don’t come true?
Our former cover girl Keke Palmer is having an incredible year! The BET talk show host will become the first Black Cinderella on Broadway.
Palmer will begin starring in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella beginning September 9 at the Broadway Theatre.
“It’s honestly one of those things that I can’t believe is really happening,” she told the Associated Press. “I’m very excited. Very excited and nervous as well — a bunch of feelings all at once.”
The 21-year-old actress credited singer-actress Brandy, who played Cinderella opposite Whitney Houston in a made-for-TV movie.
“I feel like the reason I’m able to do this is definitely because Brandy did it on TV,” Palmer said. “In me doing this, it shows everybody that everything is possible.”
TV personality Sherri Shepherd announced today on The View that she will join Palmer in the Tony Award winning musical. Shepherd will make her Broadway debut as Cinderella’s wicked stepmother, Madame.
