John Legend is making his mark in the television industry thanks to his latest partnership with WGN America. The nine-time Grammy-award winning artist and his Get Lifted production company have signed on to executive produce the television network’s upcoming series Underground.
The new thriller, starring Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Aldis Hodge, is a series based on the happenings of the underground railroad, and Legend and his crew will oversee the score, soundtrack and other musical aspects of the project.
“We are excited to join forces with WGN America and Sony and the talented team of writers and producers on this powerful project that we believe will inspire us all,” the singer said in a statement. “This series has a unique opportunity to speak to the passion and courage of those who risked it all as they raced to freedom. We are honored to bring our creative vision to this thrilling project.”
Production is currently in progress in Baton Rouge, LA, and the show is expected to air in 2016.
