CHAMELEON STREET

Dubbed as one of the 10 best films of the decade by LA Weekly, the film, based on a true story, centers on the life of William Douglas Street. Between working for his father and catering to a demanding wife, he’s bored with his life and has had enough. Street needs to re-invent himself, so he becomes a chameleon, taking on whatever role suits the situation. From reporter to doctor, he does whatever it takes to earn big. Put this flick on your watch-list. It’s streaming now.

IN MY FATHER’S HOUSE

Che “Rhymefest” Smith, Grammy and Oscar award-winning hip-hop artist, is the subject of this critically acclaimed documentary about fatherhood and personal redemption. Now playing in select theaters and later on Showtime, it tells the story of the career rise, fall and potential artistic return of the rapper as he goes on a journey to find his estranged father. Rhymefest and his dad hit the red carpet this week for the premiere in their Chicago hometown and exclusively chatted with our sister pub EBONY about his experience in the November 2015 issue. MANDELA: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM

The latest Mandela biopic begins with the legend’s childhood and traces his steps to his election as the first Black president of South Africa in 1994. Starring Idris Elba and Naomie Harris, the iconic motion picture is streaming now on Netflix. “You know, for me, that is a piece of history, told by film. …it’s a great, massive opportunity, massive responsibility to play Mr. Mandela,” Elba told JET last year. ME, EARL AND THE DYING GIRL

Directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, this 2015 American comedy-drama is based on a novel by Jesse Andrews of the same name. It follows a high school boy who spends his time creating parodies of classic movies with his co-worker, portrayed by RJ Cyler. When he meets a classmate recently diagnosed with cancer, it’s no laughing matter and his outlook on life is forever changed. The film, which premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival to a standing ovation, is available on DVD now.
