In examining two of the most prevalent stereotypes about African-American males, as the brute and as the Mandingo, we understand how the fear of these conventions contribute to the high rates of violence and incarceration. Streaming now, this film’s cast includes Dr. Cornel West, Malik Yoba and Lou Myers.

Nearly 20 years ago, N.W.A. stepped on the scene and took the hip-hop world by storm. With hardcore rap lyrics and the attitudes to match, the six guys from Compton publicized a slew of racial and social issues including police brutality and gang violence.
