J.J. Abrams Is Diversifying Hollywood
The hype surrounding #OscarsSoWhite may have gone from a boil to a slight simmer, but the cause is still at the forefront for many creatives and change is in progress.
During a recent roundtable discussion hosted by EBONY.com and African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA), a group of Black creatives spoke in-depth about taking those in power to task and using their platforms to provide more jobs and opportunities.
Jeff Clanagan of Codeblack Entertainment was adamant about the idea.
Another content creator is also holding to his word and dedication to bringing a more colorful Hollywood to the masses.
Producer and director J.J. Abrams recently announced an initiative at his Bad Robot production company to hire talent that reflected the physical truth of the U.S. population – women and people of color included.
Bringing that statement to fruition, his effort has resulted in a new leading cast for the upcoming film God Particle under his Bad Robot banner. David Oyelowo and Gugu Mbatha-Raw will star in the film thriller.
Full details surrounding the sci-fi production have yet to be released, however, Julius Onah, who worked with Spike Lee on his debut feature, The Girl Is In Trouble, will direct the film.
Alright, who’s next to jump on the progress train?
