We’ve already binge watched Dear White People, so we’re obviously pressed to know when She’s Gotta Have it going to hit Netflix.
Spike Lee is reviving his epic 1986 film, She’s Gotta Have It into a 21st-century set series for Netflix. DeWanda Wise who has been absolutely killing it on TV this year with roles on WGN’s Underground and FOX’s Shots Fired will stand at the center of the 10-episode series as Nola Darling. In the film, Nola (originally played by Tracy Camilla Johns) is stunning, bright, twenty-something who is doing her thing and dating three very different men at the same time. (Take notes ladies.) The men are the gorgeous narcissist Greer Childs, the nerdy Mars Blackman and the alpha male Jamie Overstreet. The trio decides they want Nola to choose, but as is any woman’s prerogative, she just can’t seem to make up her mind.
Filming for She’s Gotta Have It wrapped a couple of weeks back, so when can we expect it to premiere?
Netflix has not given us an official release date yet, but, when responding to a fan a couple of days ago on Instagram, Spike Lee announced that the series would debut in the fall. With Issa Rae’s Insecure getting us through summer, She’s Gotta Have It will be the perfect thing to cozy up to on chilly fall nights.
Joining Wise in Netflix’s She’s Gotta Have It is Cleo Anthony as Greer Childs; Anthony Ramos as Mars Blackmon; Lyriq Bent as Jamie Overstreet; Margot Bingham as Clorinda Bradford; and Sydney Morton as Sheryl Overstreet. Chyna Layne and Ilfenesh Hadera will also star.
There is no footage of the new series just yet, but peep the trailer for the original flick below.
