The Grammys Will Pay Tribute to Maurice White

#GrammysSoWhite was a musical tribute away from reaching social explosion.

Controversy and fury stirred after it was made public knowledge that the passing of Earth Wind and Fire legend Maurice White would not receive a musical tribute during the 58th Annual Grammy Awards.

White and the late Natalie Cole’s presence in the fallen artist tribute was initially reduced to seconds in the usual visual package.

The disregard of their contributions to music caused more frustration because Lady Gaga will perform a 10-minute set honoring David Bowie, Johnny Depp will memorialize Lemmy from Motorhead and other musical tributes are scheduled to take place, during the televised event, Monday night.

After a swarm of backlash, and rightfully so, the Grammys announced that Stevie Wonder and a cappella group Pentatonix will perform a one-minute tribute to Maurice White.

But, there’s still a bone to pick with the powers that be of the Grammys. Making matters even more racially charged and bogus, Run D.M.C. is set to receive a lifetime achievement award but it won’t be televised.

It’s a shame that Hollywood loves the art but acts as if its such a pain to acknowledge and honor the black and brown faces behind it, fairly.
