We finally found Carmen Sandiego!
Almost twenty years after the series ended on PBS, the sneaky thief with the iconic red trench coat is headed back to television. This time, she will be putting her sticky fingers to use on Netflix. The lady in red is also getting a familiar voice to bring her to life. Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez, will be voicing the crook in 20 all-new episodes for the streaming platform.
Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? will go back to its roots in this new series as a mix of education and entertainment. The character was originally introduced in the 1980’s as a children’s computer game. The game aimed at teaching kiddos geography but it expanded. Eventually, the franchise got so big that it developed into books and then a television series.
On the show, the stylish thief traveled around the globe stealing treasures and alluding detectives. With added technology, we’re pretty sure it’s going to be even harder for the Feds to catch up with Carmen. It looks like Gina Rodriguez is already prepared too. She told Twitter that she has the fedora and the coat ready to go in her closet.
Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? isn’t the only time Rodriguez will be lending her voice to an animated feature this year. She is also set to voice Mary in Sony Pictures Animation’s The Star. Additionally, she will be voicing Una in Fox’s Ferdinand.
There is no word yet on when Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? will be hitting our screens, but knowing Netflix, we’re sure it won’t be long.
