Nathalie Emmanuel first burst onto the scene as the freed slave Missandei who befriends Daenerys Targaryen and falls for Grey Worm in HBO’s smash fantasy epic, Game of Thrones.

Since then, the 28-year old Brit has been on a roll, starring as Harriet in the Maze Runner films and most recently as the tech geek Ramsay, in The Fate of the Furious.

Since she is effortlessly portraying these powerful and determined women, it’s clear that Emmanuel did not come to Hollywood to play around. The actress recently spoke with Refinery29 about her choice in characters. She said, “I definitely like to play smart women who have their own agency, and I definitely look for those kinds of roles. But obviously, when you’re looking at any roles, I’m always looking for variety as well. I wouldn’t not take a role if it wasn’t that, but I’m definitely attracted to playing strong, intelligent women. Ramsey absolutely embodies that.”

Emmanuel came into the Fast and the Furious franchise in perhaps its most explosive film, Furious 7. It was the movie that paid homage to the late Paul Walker. She said of her initiation into the franchise,

“My introduction into these movies was really explosive and it required a lot more physical activity. I think that there’s this real stigma about women in technology, and industries that surround technology. And I love the fact that this is a girl who is exceptional at what she does, is really smart and intelligent, and I think she breaks any stereotypes of the type of person you would imagine in that kind of work.”

Still, the Fast and the Furious franchise isn’t the only thing Emmanuel has lined up. She will be starring in 2018’s Maze Runner: The Death Cure and the forthcoming sci-fi film, The Titan.

Now that The Fate of the Furious has broken the all-time record for the highest opening of any film worldwide, with $532 million, Emmanuel can breath easy for a quick second until Game Of Thrones returns for season seven on July 16, 2017. Things are obviously locked down tight over at HBO, but we can only assume that as Dany marches toward the Iron Throne, Missandei will be right by her side.
