‘American Idol’ Contestant Joanne Borgella Dies

Sadly, former American Idol contestant and winner of Monique’s Big Fat Chance Joanne Borgella succumbed to cancer over the weekend.

Diagnosed with throat cancer that eventually spread to her chest, the 32-year-old model made it a goal to document her illness and share it with her friends, family, fans and followers through social media. In September, Borgella posted an image to her Facebook page with the caption:

“Gooooood morning!! We are heading back to radiation for 2 procedures!! God is with us!! I have lots to fill you in on. The presence of The Lord is here.. Prayers up!!! I love you guys #GodsGotThis #ThePowerofPrayer #Faith #IWillbeCancerFree2014 #JoanneBorgella”

Her family made the official announcement that their loved one made her transition during the early morning hours of Saturday, October 18, 2014. A proud plus-size model, the New-York born Haitain-American was an entertainer with credits extending from the American Idol stage to modeling for professional brands such as Ashley Stewart, Nordstrom and Macy’s.
