Will Comedian Eddie Murphy be playing the father of one of his icons?
Murphy is in talks to take on the role of comedian Richard Pryor’s father, LeRoy Pryor, in the new Lee Daniels’ directed biopic. Daniels made the announcement on Instagram. If Murphy signs on, he will be joining Mike Epps (who stars as Pryor) and Oprah Winfrey in the film.
From the New York Daily News:
“Strap in and brace yourself,” director Lee Daniels captioned an Instagram photo on Thursday of him and Murphy. “They done let me and him out of our cages!”
The 53-year-old comedian is currently in talks to join the cast of the Daniels-directed biopic starring Mike Epps as Pryor, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
“Richard (Pryor) is the one who made me want to do comedy,” Murphy said in his 1987 stand-up special “Raw.”
“When I was young, I wanted to be Richard Pryor so bad I used to sneak in the basement, put his albums on, and just listen,” he added.
