What a Time: Drake, Future Lead Hip Hop Award Noms
One thing that can’t be argued is the bomb year Drake and Future have had, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.
The two, who collaborated on the What A Time To Be Alive mixtape, are leading the 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards nominations. And Drake is also scoring wins left and right. His album, Views secured his third platinum plaque and allowed the Toronto rapper to soar high with 14 nominations.
But Drake’s not just winning in album sales. While on tour, the “6 god” continues to claim the spotlight with classic surprise performances. Most recently, after a rumored beef with Eminem (following a bar-for-bar exchanges with Joe Budden), Drake shut down Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena by having Em join him on stage. The gesture, and the photos that followed, caused hip-hop heads to send major salutes Drake’s way.
He definitely knows how to play a quality game of chess.
Future is running a tight second with 10 award nominations. Despite the personal drama with his ex Ciara that has been making headlines, Future has also had a successful touring year and dope guest features. Heck, his stock probably went up a bit after kicking the hook for Jay-Z on DJ Khaled’s “I Got The Keys” record.
Classic look alert!
Kanye West comes in with 8 nominations. This, alone, is a reason to tune-in to the awards because you never know what’s going to happen with ‘Ye in the building!
Adding to the hype of the show is Chance The Rapper, who will make his debut appearance at the awards along with Desiigner, Tory Lanez, and Anderson .PAAK.
The show airs Oct. 4 at 8 pm EST.
