Doug E. Fresh to Receive ‘I Am Hip Hop’ Award

Known as “The Human Beatbox,” Doug. E. Fresh is an emcee in every sense of the word- he moves the crowd.

While DJs Barry B and Chill Will snapped on the turntables – the infamous duo known as Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh rocked the crowd with smooth lyricism and an energy level that left you saying “Oh my, oh my God!” ( an ad lib from the popular banger The Show). A pioneer when it comes to the art of beat boxing and creating unique sounds that sound great on wax and in your speaker, that’s Doug E. Fresh.

Starting with the Get Fresh Crew in 1985, the group’s charisma caught massive attention and Doug E.’s ability to imitate the sound of a drum machine made him stand out even more. Over the years, his career showcased his witty-rhymes, ageless appearance, and invaluable skill when it comes to effortlessly creating music with his mouth.

As the nominees of the 2014 BET Hip Hop awards are rolling out, Doug E. Fresh will receive top honor as the recipient of the I Am Hip Hop award. He joins moguls and pioneers such as Russell Simmons, MC Lyte, Ice Cube, Grandmaster Flash, to name a few, as artists who redefined the genre.
