White Actor ‘Imperative’ for ‘Miles Ahead’

Can  one of y’all please send this story to the next celebrity or filmmaker who tells their Black counterparts to “be patient” with Hollywood progress?

Turns out that Don Cheadle, a consummate actor, had to go find a White co-star in order to get funding for his highly anticipated Miles Davis biopic.

According to Shadow and Act, Cheadle shared this rather disturbing bit of news during a question-and-answer session at a Berlin Film Festival.

“There is a lot of apocryphal, not proven evidence that black films don’t sell overseas,” Cheadle reportedly told the press. “Having a white actor in this film turned out to actually be a financial imperative.”

The actor ended up being Ewan McGregor and while Cheadle lauded his on-screen partner, it’s clear from the quotes that it wasn’t ideal including him  as an after-thought simply to assuage close-minded financiers.

Now what was that about post-racial America again?
