It’s no secret that DMX is deeply troubled. He’s candid about surviving a traumatic childhood, has dealt with several arrests and still battles substance abuse. At one point he was being considered to appear on Dr. Drew’s Celebrity Rehab but that didn’t work out. Now, Iyanla Vanzant has stepped in to counsel Dark Man X on her OWN show, Iyanla Fix My Life.
Um…not sure if that goes so well. DMX needs more than reality TV and tough love. He has to want it for himself, and based on his track record, it doesn’t seem like he does.
X appeared on Vh1’s Couple’s Therapy two seasons ago and broke down when he recalled the abusive things his mother did to him as a child. He talked about abandonment issues and the lack of parental guidance he received growing up, which affected his relationship with his estranged wife and several people in his life.
In related news, Oprah said the following at a recent press conference announcing Vanzant’s return for a second season:
“I am amazed at Iyanla Vanzant’s gift to just cut through the layers of people’s pain and their baggage and create a space in all of their hoarded junk emotionally. At the end of every show, you can see there is a crack, an opening for healing.”
Hopefully Iyanla Vanzant can help X have a real break through.
