The Lion King in all of its live-action glory is getting into formation, and it’s going to elevate the original characters and songs on a level that we have not seen from Disney before.
With Atlanta’s Donald Glover voicing Simba, and James Earl Jones returning to the franchise as Mufasa, it’s only natural that Disney would need someone iconic and regal to voice Nala. It makes sense then that their first choice to play the Lion Queen is Beyoncé!
Variety is reporting that director Jon Favreau is desperate to get the Lemonade singer for his film. The 35-year old is currently pregnant with twins, so she is taking some time for herself. However, reports are suggesting that Disney is willing to do whatever they can to work around her schedule. Though Bey has not yet made a decision about the film, it could be a possibility, especially since it would only be voice work which would not be as strenuous as a full out physical acting role.
Should the “Sorry” singer decide to throw her hat in the Disney ring, it would mark her first acting role since 2013’s Epic. We are really crossing our fingers that Bey decides to join in on this because those duets between her and Donald Glover would be of legend. We know the entire Knowles/Carter clan enjoyed themselves at the live-action Beauty and the Beast premiere, so perhaps Blue Ivy can convince her mom to join in all of the Disney fun.
There is no release date yet for the live-action version of The Lion King, but it’s being fast-tracked since Favreau did such a fantastic job with the live-action version of The Jungle Book.
What do you think? Would Beyoncé slay as Nala?
