Did Netflix Just Reveal The Release Date For ‘The Defenders’?

Netflix is dropping new Marvel superhero series left and right. On the heels of last month’s release of the controversial Iron Fist, it looks like Netflix is ready to get the team all together with The Defenders.

Based on the comic book heroes, The Defenders, Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) work together in NYC as a sort of local level Avengers.

We’ve met these heroes before in their own series, starting in 2015 with Daredevil and Jessica Jones and then with last year’s Luke Cage and most recently Iron Fist. However, The Defenders is going to be a mega-series combining all of our favs. We knew that we would be seeing The Defenders sometime this year, but this morning, Netflix released their second official teaser trailer for the series which hinted at a release date.

In the teaser, security camera footage shows The Defenders in an elevator in Midland Circle, the mysterious corporation we learned about in the second season of Daredevil. Jessica Jones eyes the security camera in the elevator and smashes it exactly at the 08:18:20:17 mark. Could this mean that The Defenders will be dropping, Friday, August 18, 2017? The internet certainly seems to think so.

Since Netflix has promised to drop a new Marvel series about every six months for the next five years, it would definitely fit nicely into their timeline. There are also more hidden gems in the trailer. At the top left of the video, there is an IP address: 23.253.120.81. If you enter that address into your browser, it will take you to the The New York Bulletin the newspaper where Ben Urich (Vondie Curtis-Hall) was an investigative journalist in the Daredevil series. On it, you’ll find pieces on the individual Defenders, and an interview with Ward Meachum and Joy Meachum from Iron Fist.

Netflix quickly snatched the teaser offline, but not before fans got their hands on it. Also, the streaming service is not known to make mistakes, so this could all be a part of their larger marketing plan.

Besides The Defenders, Simone Missick’s Misty Knight from Luke Cage will also be starring in the series as well as Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple. Will you be watching?
