Since stepping on the scene in the 1970s, Denzel Washington has developed a monstrous and impressive filmography that includes captivating and powerful movies worthy of much praise.

Now, the star is receiving a special honor of his own — the San Sebastian Film Festival’s Donostia Lifetime Achievement Award, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

With movies like Malcolm X, Glory, Flight and many more favorites, it’s no surprise that the Oscar winner will be rewarded for his outstanding span of work.

Not only will he be receiving the organization’s highest award, he’ll also be opening the European festival with his latest project, The Equalizer.

The action flick, directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day), follows a former intelligence officer, played by Washington, who is pulled out of retirement to battle a gang of Russian mobsters. It’s based on the 1980s TV series of the same name.

It will hit U.S. theaters September 26, and we can’t wait to check it out.

Congratulations, Denzel!
