David Oyelowo Gets “Captive”

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Paramount has signed on to distribute David Oyelowo’s next film, true-life thriller “Captive,” starring the British actor and American actress Kate Mara.

Coming off the success of Ava DuVernay’s “Selma” where Oyelowo played Civil Rights icon Martin Luther King, Jr., Oyelowo takes on a role that is the polar opposite of the nonviolence advocate — deranged, real-life killer Brian Nichols who took a woman hostage in her own home after shooting up and escaping an Atlanta courtroom in 2005. His co-star, Mara, is playing Ashley Smith, the woman Nichols held hostage in the midst of his killing spree. The film is based on her book about the ordeal, where she eventually talked Nichols into letting her go.

The film also stars Michael K Williams, Leonor Varela, Jessica Oyelowo and Mimi Rogers.
