Dave Chappelle, ATCQ Ratings Win for SNL
The stars aligned over the weekend to bring one of the Blackest episodes of Saturday Night Live to TV screens all across America. After a week that had many feeling dismayed by the election results, SNL offered a glimmer of hope.
On Saturday, Dave Chappelle stepped to the mic to guest star on SNL, and he brought A Tribe Called Quest and Chris Rock with him. After opening with a blistering 11-minute monologue that touched on the presidential election, ISIS, and Black Lives Matter, Chappelle delivered his brand of biting comedy to 30 Rock.
And it worked.
Saturday’s episode of Saturday Night Live was the most popular of the season, drawing millions of viewers and scoring a 6.2 Live+same day household rating, according to Deadline, up from last week’s 5.8. It also signaled the return of Chappelle, who has been keeping a relatively low profile since ending his popular Comedy Central show back in 2006, and hip hop legends A Tribe Called Quest.
