Dave Chappelle just went Hollywood.
The prolific comedian has no plans of returning to hiatus anytime soon. His recent comedy specials are now the most-watched Netflix comedy specials ever, and now Dave Chappelle is ready to take Hollywood. In a shocking move for those who have followed Chappelle’s career for the past two decades, the 43-year old just joined the cast of Bradley Cooper’s highly anticipated remake of A Star Is Born.
Based on the iconic 1976 musical drama starring Barbra Streisand, this 2018 revamp will star Cooper and Lady Gaga as an established actor and an aspiring star respectively who fall in love just as their careers begin heading in opposite directions. Chapelle has joined the cast as Noodles, a character that wasn’t in the 1976 film or the one from 1954 starring Judy Garland. Noodles is described as Cooper’s character’s “oldest friend with whom he started out playing in blues clubs.”
Though Chappelle has had roles in comedies like The Nutty Professor, Undercover Brother, and Half Baked, we haven’t seen him do much in the realm of drama. However, with his mega talent, we are certain that he is more than capable of holding his own.
When Bradley Cooper originally set out to get this film made, Beyoncé was in talks to join the cast. Sadly that didn’t happen. However, now that Chappelle has signed on, we definitely have a reason to go check it out in the theaters.
A Star is Born will light up the big screen September 18, 2018.
Until then you can check out Chappelle’s stand specials on Netflix.
