John Singleton’s first full trailer for Snowfall shows the crack epidemic on the verge of exploding.
Snowfall, the ’80 set series from the Boyz N the Hood director is set to make a splash on FX, Wednesday, July 5th at 10 PM ET/PT and we finally have a full-fledged trailer. In Los Angeles, 1983, a storm is coming, and its name is crack. Snowfall is an hour long drama set during the infancy of the crack cocaine epidemic and its ultimate radical impact on the culture as we know it. The story follows numerous characters on a violent collision course, including Franklin Saint (Damson Idris), young street entrepreneur on a quest for power; Gustavo “El Oso” Zapata (Sergio Peris-Mencheta), a Mexican wrestler caught up in a power struggle within a crime family; Teddy McDonald (Carter Hudson), a CIA operative running from a dark past who begins an off-book operation to fund the Nicaraguan Contras and Lucia Villanueva (Emily Rios), the self-possessed daughter of a Mexican crime lord. Peep the volcanic trailer below.
Earlier this year, Singleton said he was inspired to do the series, which thus far has 10-episodes because of his own experience growing up in South Central, LA. He said, “If you went to South Central [before the crack epidemic], there weren’t any bars on windows; there were less fences. This happens, and Snowfall prevails on neighborhoods, changing alliances and families.”
From the looks of the first trailer, it looks like Snowfall will truly live up to everything we could have imaged. Will you be tuning in?
