Ever since his entered the acting realm, Common has received accolades for his roles in front of the camera.

Coming off his critically acclaimed performance in Selma, the Chicago-bred native recently detailed his role in the upcoming film, Barbershop 3.

During an interview with DX Daily, Common expressed his excitement at the new role.

“I hadn’t done a comedy ever”, said the 43-year-old entertainer. “I was part of a movie called Date Night but it’s like coming home, the movie is based in Chicago and it’s being around all these great talented actors and comedians from Ice Cube to Cedric The Entertainer to Eve to Nicki Minaj to Dion Cole and this actor named Lamorne [Morris] and Regina Hall.”

Common also touched on the film being a perfect combination of cultural relevance and comedy.

“It’s just a great experience working with Malcolm Lee as the director,” he said. “I was excited because the story is also dealing with the Chicago vibe, but Barbershop is a comedy so you get [the best of both worlds].”

Barbershop 3 is set to be released in 2016.
