Coming Soon: ‘BaddDDD Sonia Sanchez’

Sonia Sanchez cuts with the power of her words. Reciting poetry to jazz-assisted rhythms, her art alerts the spirit of people with in-depth stories and observations of life.

After a successful 2013 Kickstarter campaign, a docu-film from directors Barbara Attie, Janet Goldwater and Sabrina Schmidy Gordon is being distributed by California Newsreel.

The film, titled BaddDDD Sonia Sanchez, tells the story of the 81-year-old spoken-word poet and her rise to becoming a prominent figure during the 1960s Black Arts Movement, along with her work as a civil rights activist, educator and playwright.

BaddDDD Sonia Sanchez is her life told poetically through film.

BaddDDD Sonia Sanchez will screen at DOC NYC on Wednesday, Nov. 18 and Thursday Nov. 19 at the IFC Center.
