Congratulations, Cissy Houston!

In 1996 and 1998, Cissy Houston won two Grammys for her traditional soul gospel albums, He Leadeth Me and Face to Face.

On Saturday, September 26, the mother of vocal powerhouse Whitney Houston and grandmother of Bobbi Kristina Brown, will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Gospel Image Awards, to be held in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The inaugural event, scheduled to be held at the Halton Theater, will recognize Houston for her contributions to the gospel music genre and feature music performances from a variety of national artists, yet to be named.

Houston was the founding member of popular girl group, Sweet Inspirations who became well-known while singing alongside artists such as Aretha Franklin and Elvis Presley.
