Chris Rock Inks $40 Million Deal With Netflix
One of the funniest men on the planet is also an excellent businessman. According to Variety, Netflix just announced it inked a massive $40 million deal with Chris Rock to air the comedian’s next two specials.
The move marks Rock’s return to stand-up after an eight-year hiatus, and it’s also a big deal for the streaming giant who beat out Amazon, HBO, and Hulu to nab the funnyman who easily makes most people’s comedic Top 5 (no pun intended).
Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer, talked up Rock’s talents.
“Chris Rock is a beloved actor and director, and his remarkable stand-up makes him comic royalty,” he said. “There is no one like him, and Netflix offers the global platform and creative freedom that will serve as a perfect home for someone with his incredible talent.”
Rock is just the latest in a long line of comedians to sign exclusive deals with Netflix for their comedy specials. Cedric the Entertainer, Aziz Ansari, Chelsea Handler, Patton Oswalt, and others have also rolled out specials with Netflix, and Rock is eager to add his name to the growing list of A-list talent.
“I’m very excited to be working with Ted and Lisa and all the good people at Netflix,” he said. “I can’t wait to get back on stage.”
