Chantelle Fraser Talks ‘Blood, Sweat & Heels’
Chantelle Fraser is one of the newest cast members to join Season 2 of the Bravo reality series “Blood, Sweat, and Heels.” The British bombshell may be new to the television world, but she has successfully owned Flawless, her promotions and entertainment modeling agency, for nearly 10 years. Chantelle speaks with JET about reality TV, new business ventures, and offers tips to aspiring business owners.
JET: What made you make the transition into reality television?
Chantelle Fraser: I mean, it’s really quite simple. I just thought that I had more to gain than what I had to lose. I mean, Blood, Sweat, and Heels is about successful career women and their businesses and personal life and the relationships that we have with each other. So having a mainstream platform to showcase my business was actually the key factor to making the decision.
JET: How are you handling being a reality star?
Chantelle Fraser: I mean it’s definitely a big adjustment. This is the first time anything like this has happened to me in my life. So, it’s a unique experience and it’s also very exciting. The trick is really to stay focused on business and the day-to-day activities and not get caught up in the frenzy [that] surrounds becoming a TV personality. That includes social media, events, and people who always want to talk about the show. You definitely have to stay focused and that is the challenge. It’s an adjustment.
JET: Have you had any clients who wanted to focus primarily on the show rather than conduct business?
Chantelle Fraser: It’s actually brought me closer to some of my clients because some are fans of the show and they get to see me in a different light. So it’s like, we’ll get business and my clients will call me and they’ll want to recap the show and we talk about business, so it’s still a win-win situation.
JET: Any dramatic changes in your personal life since you started the show?
Chantelle Fraser: It’s definitely a whole lot more hectic. I’ve had a lot more social engagements. Also, the main thing is, you’re up for public scrutiny every week. Every week you have the potential to be roasted on social media and that can be tough. My first week, people didn’t really know me and obviously I’m British, so that has a different dynamic. So you know it was tough for people just adjusting to me. But since then, people are really getting to know me and see different layers to my personality and the response has actually been overwhelmingly good, thank God. But you know, everything can change after every episode, so it’s almost like playing Russian roulette. One week everybody loves you, and the next week everybody hates you. You never know how it’s going to turn out. But so far, it’s been really great. The best thing that I think that’s happened to me is that I’ve had so many opportunities that have opened up to me. I’m just really now in the space of opportunity, which I think is actually one of the best times of my life.
JET: What can we expect from you in regards to the show?
Chantelle Fraser: You’ll definitely get to see my classic British good sense of humor, which you may get or you may not get or you’ll learn to appreciate, one of the three. Also, you’re going to get to see lots of displays of loyalty from me and friendship. I definitely go the extra mile for my friends whether I’m defending them or, you know, just being there for them in times of need. I go on blind dates and I also have a fancy yacht party which showcases my company’s entertainment services. Of course there are a few confrontations because you know I am spicy and I’m definitely very assertive. You’ve probably seen that by now. Oh yea, there’s also a part where I strip off into my undies and jump into a pool (laughs).
JET: That’ll be worth watching for sure.
Chantelle Fraser: You’ll definitely get a few laughs.
JET: Next year will be Flawless’ 10th anniversary. Any defining moments in your entrepreneurial journey?
Chantelle Fraser: Oh gosh, a lot really. First of all, just getting through the 2008 recession was one. I mean, that was really difficult just to even stay alive. Also in 2013, we were recognized as the top entertainment and promotional modeling agency in America and that was by Big Bash, which is the industry’s number one entertainment resource. So that was good.
JET: Your network is one that is very extensive and impressive, how do you maintain such great relationships with your clients?
Chantelle Fraser: When it comes to relationship building, I definitely work through the act of diplomacy. I believe in the importance of being grateful to others and I also maintain a very controlled ego. So I think this mindset has been very valuable in my ability to just maintain good relationships with people and get their trust.
JET: Any advice for those interested in starting up a business?
Chantelle Fraser: Number one is to not let fear get in your way. I keep this at the forefront of my mind whenever fear starts to set in. Fear is the number one saboteur of your success when it comes to starting a business. Most people do not start a business because of the fear that sets in, so you’ve just got to let go of all of that fear. A couple of ways to do that is to only share your vision with like-minded people, so either those people that have the same mindset as you, or those that have a more advanced mindset. Finally, I think you just have to do it. I think a lot of people think that they need to know everything before they start and they need to know this and they need to know that. The reality is that, for myself and I know other entrepreneurs, you’re always learning on the job. It’s a university within itself when you have a business. So you don’t need to go in already having the degree, just go in there and you’ll learn everyday, you’ll learn on the job and you’ll face obstacles when they come to you as they come to you.
JET: What can we expect from you and the Flawless brand in the future?
Chantelle Fraser: Well actually, I’m starting flawless-living.com and that launched last Sunday. It’s a web publication which reflects my personal philosophies of success, so it’s a guide to self-improvement and it focuses on health and fitness, beauty, love, and also style and career. I’m still going through the journey, so I want to help others to become the best version of themselves and to live their best life.
