Chadwick Boseman to Star in ‘Black Panther’

Now if you’re anything like me, at first you may have assumed, based on the title Black Panther, that Chadwick Boseman was yet another victim of typecasting in Hollywood.

The 37-year-old actor has already received accolades for playing Jackie Robinson in 42 and, most recently, James Brown in Get On Up … why is he in yet another period piece?

But, as it turns out, Boseman is the star of Marvel’s upcoming movie Black Panther, in which he will play the titular character. The Black Panther, also known as T’Challa, is the leader of the fictional African nation Wakanda. As such, the actor has become Marvel Studios’ first solo lead of color.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Boseman’s character is expected to debut in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. The news was announced at Marvel Studio’s event Tuesday morning at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles.

Black Panther is slated to hit theaters in November 2017.
