Boris Kodjoe & Tyson Beckford on ‘Addicted’
Ladies, get ready for some serious Man Candy.
On October 10, Boris Kodjoe and Tyson Beckford are bringing Zane’s bestselling romance novel, Addicted, to life on the big screen.
In the movie, Kodjoe plays the dutiful husband to Sharon Leal’s character, Zoe Reynard, a successful businesswoman who also happens to be addicted to sex.
“It addresses a topic that’s taboo in our community,” says Kodjoe, during his recent visit to JET with Beckford. “[Sex addiction] is a disease that doesn’t discriminate. It’s a temptation tale of a woman living out her fantasy, but it turns out to be a disaster.”
After a lust-fueled affair with one of her clients, Reynard meets mysterious stranger Corey (played by Beckford) in the club.
“My bad-boy days are behind me,” shares Beckford during the pair’s recent visit to JET. “My character starts to fall in love with her, which is unexpected. But he gets hurt in the end–it gets ugly.”
Both men admitted to experiences being the cheater and the person cheated on in a relationship.
“Cheating is a dealbreaker,” says Beckford. “No one wants to get their heart broken and I’d want them to treat me the same way. If you’re not happy, let me know. In the end, it’s not worth it.”
Kodjoe agrees, but also mentions that everybody’s situation is different.
“A lot of cultures believe in polygamy over monogamy,” he explains. “A lot of times arranged marries last longer than the ones we have here. So don’t judge, leave it up to the people involved to figure out what works.”
As for keeping the love alive in a long-term relationship, Kodjoe recommends continuing to date each other.
“My wife [actress Nicole Ari Parker] and I put each other first,” he shares. “She was here before the kids. So we make sure we go on dates. My advice is to treat your wife like your girlfriend.”
After Addicted, you can catch Kodjoe on the new season of BET’s Real Husbands of Hollywood, premiering Oct. 14.
“There’s going to be more craziness. Every time we all step on set, it’s a disaster–all bets are off,” he jokes. “We make fun of each other. It’s effortless. We’re all friends and it’s the most fun I’ve had on any TV show. This season, my character finds religion in an excessive way, so there are a lot of twists and turns.”
And Beckford is hard at work on the upcoming stripper flick Chocolate City, which has been billed as the “Black Magic Mike.”
“I hate that,” he shares. “They’re two totally different films. It’s about the business and the jealousy behind it. You see the money they make and it’s thousands of dollars. The key is to be the featured dancer, but they can be threatened by the younger dancers. It’s a lot of working out, a lot of jealousy and there’s even a fight scene.”
