Black-ish Spin-off in the works for Yara Shahidi?!
Tracee Ellis Ross snagged her first Golden Globe for her portrayal of “Rainbow Johnson” in the hit ABC series, black-ish. But she isn’t the only one making moves in relation to the award-winning sitcom.
The cast and crew have been gaining critical acclaim since its 2014 debut and with each hard-hitting episode that tackles relevant subject matters such as race, politics, social and class systems, viewers of all nationalities are completely tuned-in with the Johnsons and applauding the narratives.
Included in that clan is the phenomenal Yara Shahidi, who acts as Zoey Johnson, a popular and stylish, socially active 17-year-old with three younger siblings. In her parents’ eyes, she’s perfection regardless of her shallow personality. As she prepares for college, there are now talks that the transition could come as a complete spin-off to black-ish.
Interwebs are talking and reportedly ABC has its eyes on extending Shahidi’s character with a show of her own that would center on Zoey’s college years. Kenya Barris, creator and executive producer of black-ish, has been in the lab with ABC studios working out a potential plan.
And it makes sense. Think along the lines of The Cosby Show and A Different World.
Yara is bomb, so we’d certainly tune-in!
