The Black Panthers: Vanguard Of The Revolution
The Black Panther movement was one of community cultural development and radical ideas.
AT its height, it was indeed a revolutionary stance founded and led by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale, with values of self-defense and education, boasting broad ideologies and actions.
One of the major issues the Panthers party challenged, and fought against, was police brutality. Sadly, that battle is once again being waged in light of what has happened to Michael Brown, Eric Garner and Tamir Rice to name a few unarmed Black men who have died during police interactions.
With the Panthers’ work still so relevant, we are excited about the new Stanley Nelson directed, The Black Panthers: Vanguard Of The Revolution, film. It depicts the rise and fall of the party featuring voices with firsthand accounts of the Panther years.
Making its debut at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 23, the documentary promises to be an accurate portrait of the black nationalist organization.
