New Cosby Show Scheduled to Debut Next Summer

Bill Cosby to return to TV in NBC family comedy.

One of America’s favorite TV dads is making a return to the small screen sooner than you think.

According to the Associated Press, the 77-year-old actor is set to star in a “classic, extended-family sitcom,” that could premier as early as next summer. If the show is not ready by then, it would be added to the fall premieres lineup.

Deadline first made the announcement about the new series, which is currently in the writing stages, back in January.

Cosby, best known for his work on his eponymous shows, is partnering with producer Tom Werner on the project. The untitled sitcom will be a half hour and there is no word yet on when it will premiere.

Earlier this year, Cosby told Yahoo TV about his plans to return to TV:

“They would like to see a married couple that acts like they love each other, warts and all, children who respect the parenting, and the comedy of people who make mistakes. Warmth and forgiveness,” he said in November. “So I hope to get that opportunity, and I will deliver the best of Cosby.”
