Beyoncé Clears the Air About Baartman Flick

Last month, folks seemed less than impressed when news broke that Beyoncé would write and star in a film about Saartjie Baartman, a South African woman who appeared in freak shows because of her voluptuous physique.

While the star initially never peeped a word, her team is now stepping forward to set the record straight.

Queen Bey is not involved.

On Tuesday, her rep told Billboard that she “is in no way tied to this project. This is an important story that should be told, however.”

Baartman was paraded across Europe during the 1800s as a spectacle named Hottentot Venus. She died at 26 in 1815, but it wasn’t until 2002 that she received a proper burial in her native home.

It’s certainly an important piece of history, but the “Diva” singer won’t be a part of it.

So there you have it, folks. Consider this rumor officially debunked.
