BET Awards to Honor Smokey Robinson, Tom Joyner

Music icon Smokey Robinson, along with syndicated radio personality Tom Joyner, will be honored with awards at the 15th annual BET Awards.

Robinson will receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award and Joyner will be presented with the Humanitarian Award at the June 28 ceremony.


Robinson has been a recipient of numerous industry accolades, having been inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, among other awards.

Since the 1990s, Tom Joyner has helmed weekday morning airways via The Tom Joyner Show, drawing more than 8 million listeners. Through his nonprofit, The Tom Joyner Foundation, the radio personality has raised more than $60 million to help students attending historically Black colleges and universities.

black-ish’s Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson will host this year’s BET Awards. The ceremony will broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
