Bad Business Between Jay Z & Marina Abramović?
If you’re smart, you’re not going to turn down an offer to collaborate with Jay Z.
But the last thing you’d expect is to be slighted. But that’s exactly what performance and conceptual artist Marina Abramović says happened to her.
During an interview with Spike Art Magazine, Abramović spoke openly about her 2013 partnership with Hov, where she assisted him in creating his own version of her 2010 work The Artist Is Present: the “Picasso Baby” video.
Here’s what Abramović told Spike Art:
There was one reason for this that I can’t talk about. I am very pissed by this, since he adapted my work only under one condition: that he would help my institute. Which he didn’t.
He completely used me. And that wasn’t fair. In the end it was only a one-way transaction. I will never do it again, that I can say. Never. I was really naive in this kind of world. It was really new to me, and I had no idea that this would happen. It’s so cruel, it’s incredible. I will stay away from it for sure.
Jay Z’s camp hasn’t responded to the accusations yet, but let’s hope he’s not doing shady business.
