6 Celebrities Who Spread Autism Awareness
April is Autism Awareness Month. There are some celebrities that have used their platform to promote autism awareness, and provide support for other parents that may be experiencing the same type of journey with their children. Their passion for educating the masses doesn’t go unnoticed. JET takes a look at six celebrity parents of children living with autism who seek to shine a light on the need for intervention and early diagnosis.
Holly Robinson-Peete is very vocal in her quest to raise autism awareness. Holly and Rodney Peete’s son RJ was diagnosed when he was 3 years old. Holly has put on her cape to blast rappers J. Cole and 50 Cent in the past for what she felt was insensitive and offensive comments made whether it was in a song or on social media. The couple created the HollyRod Foundation, which provides care to people living with autism and Parkinson’s disease. The foundation has installed RJ’s Places in autism centers, which help provide state of the art technology to help verbally challenged kids with autism communication.
Where did the time go?! From the day my son was diagnosed with #Autism I was determined to advocate like mad for him and help provide help and hope to other families who are under resourced. These children are so amazing. They have amazing brains that function differently than others and we need to embrace that!
