Video: ‘Aunt Viv’ Blasts Jada Pinkett-Smith
Whether it’s bitter vengeance or genuine disagreement, former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air co-star Janet Hubert spent her MLK day blasting off at the Smiths…as in Will and Jada.
As uproar continues to circulate the Interwebs in disgruntlement about the “all-white” Oscar nominations, Jada Pinkett-Smith released a video explaining why she will not be taking part in this year’s festivities. The video went viral and gained nearly 9 million views, even making its way into mid-day and nightly news coverage.
However, what caused the bigger stir, Monday night, was a video response from Janet Hubert who told Will and Jada to “get over yourselves.” The actress also questioned Will’s ability to speak for himself.
“First of all, Miss Thing, does your man not have a mouth of his own?” In addition to criticizing Jada’s request for actors to join in her boycott, Hubert touched on the current tensions between law enforcement and Black Lives as well as dismissing the Oscars, stating that the issue is not that serious.

Social media weighed in on the events involving the Oscars and it seems like people are on both sides of the fence when it comes to Hubert vs. The Smiths.
A few reactions below:
We all agree that Aunt Viv 1.0 is still butthurt about being kicked off Fresh Prince but homegirl had good points. https://t.co/9EDHGOvcmL

The bigger question is what will become of the Oscar’s as it relates to people of color? While Jada is calling for Black people to take complete ownership of their business and creative projects, as I previously suggested, others feel that #OscarsSoWhite is nothing new. For example, filmmaker John Singleton takes an opposing view expressing in an interview that there are “only so many slots”
