#SceneGem: Angela Bassett is a “Reel Icon”!

Angela Bassett’s career has always been on nonstop fire.

Her ability to dig into the depths of a character to deliver their story in the most authentic way possible, has earned “Auntie Angie” some of the most culturally iconic roles. From stepping into the shoes of Ms. Tina Turner, to becoming a leader in the movement as the revered Coretta Scott King, and showing many how to get back in the dating game with “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” and lighting ish on fire when he gives no act right in “Waiting to Exhale”, Angela Bassett shows with every role that she was built for the business and remains a gem.

Now, our precious gem is being honored for her numerous career achievements as one of films all-time favorite actors, with the “Reel Icon” award. The award will be presented by the American Black Film Institute at their annual “New, Next, Now, Legend,” Oscar Week gala.

The theme salutes that institution’s mission to preserve the cinematic legacy of African American films and films of the global Black experience while also nurturing the current wave of emerging artists in various areas.

The celebratory event will take place at the Prestons-over-Hollywood at the Hollywood Loews Hotel, on February 24, 2017. Artists such as Jessie T. Usher (Survivor’s Remorse, Independence Day 2), Issa Rae (Awkward Black Girl, Insecure), Janelle Monae (Hidden Figures, Moonlight), Naomie Harris (Moonlight) will also be honored.
