Angel Haze (Raykeea Wilson) released her new mixtape entitled, Classick last evening. The tape features the Detroit native rapping over tracks by Eminem, Lauryn Hill and Missy Elliot. The most talked about song on Classick, “Cleaning Out My Closet,” describes the disturbing tale of the sexual abuse Haze experienced as a child.
In an interview with The New York Times Haze said the ultimate goal of the song was to let go of her pain.
“I literally bared my soul there. So it’s a giant step for me, and hopefully it helps a lot of people.” Haze adds, “I know it’s important in music to be honest with who you are, because this world is so full of lost kids who go through the same thing I went though, whose end result is ultimately suicide or drugs.”
The up and coming rapper just signed a contract with Universal Republic Records last summer, so look out for more music to come. In the meantime, download Classick here.
