Seventeen-year-old actress Amandla Stenberg, best known for her portrayal as Rue in The Hunger Games, has accepted a leading role in the science-fiction trilogy The Darkest Minds.

Amandla, whose name means “power” in Zulu, is living up to her moniker as one of the rising young actresses in the entertainment industry. In the past year, Stenberg has booked multiple high profile gigs with the majority of them being leads.
In her latest opportunity, Stenberg will star in the film adaptation of Alexandra Brackens’ novel The Darkest Minds. Directed by Jennifer Luh Nelson, Stenberg will be playing Ruby Daly, a 16-year-old survivor of a mysterious disease that has killed most of the American children and given her superpowers.
Ruby, along with the other survivors, is taken away from from her family and placed in an interment camp after being deemed too dangerous for society. At the camp, Ruby bans together with others to hatch a plan to run away.
Though exciting, Stenberg isn’t stopping there; she has multiple gems in the works. In addition to The Darkest Minds, the teen is working on another film adaptation, Everything, Everything, which is based on Nicola Yoon’s debut novel.

Other film projects in the works for Stenberg is a role in Amma Asante’s WWII romantic drama Where Hands Touch, and a starring bid in the adaptation of Angela Thomas’ book The Hate U Give, which is inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement.
With so many projects on her plate it’s clear Stenberg will be a force in Hollywood for years to come. The naturalista is effortlessly winning over our hearts, with her edgy style and impressive accomplishments.
