After news of the Supreme Court ruling upholding Affirmative Action in admission decisions in the state of Texas spread, Black Twitter decided to celebrate the announcement by taking a few shots at “Becky with the bad grades.”

In this instance, “Becky” was Abigail Fisher, a white Texan who claimed she was denied entry into the University of Texas because of her race. Fisher argued that she would have been allowed into the selective Austin campus if they hadn’t admitted under-qualified minorities. But as it turns out, Fisher wasn’t that qualified either. Her high school GPA wasn’t within the top 10 percent of her class, and 168 candidates with the same, or even higher averages than Fisher’s, were also turned down for entry into the university.
Though Fisher called the Supreme Court ruling disappointing and said she hopes “the nation will one day move beyond affirmative action,” Black Twitter threw a celebration.
The hashtags #BeckyWithTheBadGrades and #StayMadAbby (a throwback to last December when the court heard arguments on the case) started trending. Some used the tags to discuss their own experience with entitled “Beckys” while in college, and of course, others cracked some hilarious jokes.
